Transport Carriers/Amtrak Auto Train

***Most companies with their own trucks are Terminal-to-Terminal*** Terminal-to-Terminal means that your car is loaded, then unloaded into a storage facility where another truck will come to pick it up, and load it again. From there it will travel to another storage facility near your destination where another truck will then load it and drop it off somewhere to you. This leaves a huge window of opportunity for damage to your vehicle! The average price for transporting is $550.00 to $600.00 dollars and takes between three to seven days to arrive at the terminal near your destination. It may take another day or so to arrive at your home or you may have to go to the terminal to pick it up. There are companies that will offer you door to door service. Make sure to ask exactly what they mean by door to door. Most car transport trucks are 75 feet or longer, getting into most residential areas is almost impossible. Power lines that hang low and, narrow streets are just a few of the obstacles car carriers face. It is sometimes a good idea to have an alternative pickup or drop off like a big parking lot nearby. Here are a few things to know, when shipping your auto by transport carrier.Your vehicle will be scheduled on a nationally routed carrier. Every attempt is made by the dispatcher to fit your schedule for pick-up and delivery. Most carriers have 8 to 11 autos they continually pick up and drop off. They also have to contend with weather, road conditions, and traffic. These are issues that could potentially void any guarantee of delivery on time. We also have to contend with the same issues. Difference is, we only have one vehicle and one destination to meet. We can also deliver or pick you up at an airport, they can't.

  • You could also use the Amtrak Auto Train. Lorton, VA, is the North Terminal. Sanford, FL is the South Terminal for Amtrak's Auto Train. The trip usually takes around seventeen hours. You will have to drive your vehicle to Lorton Virginia to be loaded on the train. This can take between three to four hours from NJ. You can then ride to Sanford Florida with your vehicle, wait for it to be unloaded and then travel on to your destination. It's a three hour drive from Sanford to Palm Beach County, a little longer to Broward or Miami Counties. The cost is around $500.00 dollars for two adults which includes coach seating, a dining car, a sightseer lounge car and one regular sized auto. On a daily basis, at both terminals, vehicles and their passengers leave at 4:00 pm and arrive the next day at 9:30 am. The Auto Train begins to accept vehicles at 11:30 am and passengers at 2:30 pm.
